Kia recalls 500,000 vehicles in the US due to airbag glitch

Kia’s recall includes Forte models 2010 to 2013, Optima models 2011 to 2013, Optima Hybrid models 2011 to 2012 and Sedona vehicles. It explained that the vehicles’ susceptibility to electrical overstress can cause a short circuit that prevents both the frontal airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, which hold the driver and the front seat passenger in place in the event of a collision, from working.

Unfortunately, Kia doesn’t have a fix for the issue yet, but it said it’s already working on one with its supplier. According to the NHTSA, the airbag control module in the affected cars were manufactured by German auto parts-maker ZF Friedrichshafen AG. Kia spokesperson James Bell said the company is hoping to get a fix ready “by the scheduled owner notification date of July 27[th].” He also said that the automaker will provide customers with a rental car in case its remedy for the issue still isn’t ready by that date.

Uber is looking to buy the bike-share company behind Citi Bike and Ford GoBike

Uber is reportedly looking into buying Motivate, the company that makes Ford GoBike’s in the San Francisco Bay Area and Citi Bike over on the East Coast. This comes following reports of Lyft getting close to purchasing Motivate in a $250 million deal.

Uber bought bike-share startup JUMP, a dockless, electric bike-share service, earlier this year, for about $250 million. In April, Motivate deployed electric bikes in San Francisco. Once JUMP’s 18-month pilot program with the city is up next June, we can expect to see companies like Motivate, Lime and others apply to deploy their own dockless bikes in the city.

I’ve reached out to Uber and will update this story if I hear back.

Just this week, both Uber and Lyft applied to deploy electric scooters in San Francisco. You can read more about that here.

The Tyson Fury exile is over. Tonight marks the return of the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’, two-and-a-half years after his famous victory over Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf. He’s odds-on favorite and Fury is looking in great shape.

His opponent is Albanian veteran Sefer Seferi, a rank outsider on the night but far more active in recent times, having fought four times since Fury’s last bout in 2015. Seferi’s record stands at 23 wins with 21 knock-outs, and one defeat – so he’s clearly no slouch. 29-year-old Fury, ten years Seferi’s junior, has a [...]  read more
