2.5 billion people use at least one of Facebook’s apps

Facebook today for the first time announced that in June, 2.5 billion people used at least one of its apps: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, or Messenger. That’s a helpful number because it counts real people, rather than accounts, since people can have multiple accounts on a single app. 2.5 billion people compares to 2.23 billion monthly users on Facebook, 1 billion users on Instagram, 1.5 billion users on WhatsApp, and 1.3 billion users on Messenger.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the new stat on Facebook’s Q2 2018 earnings call following a tough report that saw its user growth slow to its lowest rate ever. Zuckerberg said the 2.5 billion count “Individual people rather than active accounts” which he says “excludes when people have multiple accounts on a single app. And it reflects that many people use more than one of our services.”

It seems as if Facebook announced the stat in hopes of deflecting attention from the fact that its user count shrank in Europe and was flat in the [...]  read more

Despite scandals, Facebook is still raking in cash and users

While both daily and monthly active users did have an 11 percent year-over-year growth during Q2 2018, Facebook would likely prefer that 1.54 quarterly increase to be much higher — it was 3.14 percent in Q1 of this year. It’s unclear if this dip came as a result of the many scandals Facebook’s been dealing with, but it’s safe to say those aren’t helping its reputation among people all across the world.

Still, Facebook continues to make a ton of money every quarter, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the latest one wasn’t any different. Facebook attributes a big chunk of this to mobile, which it says represented 91 percent of its $13 billion advertising revenue and had an 87 percent increase compared to the second quarter of 2017. If you had any doubt mobile was the future for companies like Facebook, think again.

E’ accaduto ieri pomeriggio a Milano, in via Martinazzoli, in zona Bruzzano.

YouTube’s virtual reality app is now available on Samsung Gear VR

You can access the “watch together” icon under the play controls in the YouTube app on your Daydream View or Gear VR. YouTube isn’t the first VR tech to offer group viewing, of course. Oculus has group movies, sporting events and a virtual hangout space on offer, while Facebook launched its own Spaces in 2017.

The YouTube team is also teasing some upcoming exclusives, like going backstage with Portugal. The Man and Hayley Kiyoko as part of YouTube’s Rock VR 180 series. The VR content also includes an inside look at female leaders in The Female Planet VR series, a video game action series from SoKrispyMedia and documentaries like “After Solitary 360˚” from Frontline.
