Two years after WannaCry, a million computers remain at risk

Two years ago today, a powerful ransomware began spreading across the world.

WannaCry spread like wildfire, encrypting hundreds of thousands of computers in over 150 countries in a matter of hours. It was the first time that ransomware, a malware that encrypts a user’s files and demands cryptocurrency in ransom to unlock them, had spread across the world in what looked like a coordinated cyberattack.

Hospitals across the U.K. declared a “major incident” after they were knocked offline by the malware. Government systems, railway networks and private companies were also hit.

Security researchers quickly realized the malware was spreading like a computer worm, across computers and over the network, using the Windows SMB protocol. Suspicion soon fell on a batch of highly classified hacking tools developed by the National Security Agency, which weeks earlier had been been stolen and published online for anyone to use.

“It’s real,” said Kevin Beaumont, a U.K.-based security researcher [...]  read more

How to watch Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5 stream online from anywhere

Game of Thrones season 8, Episode 5: when and where?
The fifth episode of Game of Thrones will be airing in the US on HBO on Sunday, May 12 at 12pm ET, 6pm PT.

Due to the pesky business of time zones, that could mean some less than comfortable viewing times for some. Those in the UK for example should expect a viewing time of 2am.

You can see a full list of locations to watch it live for English speaking countries down below.

Four episodes in and we’ve seen giant battles, epic scenes of Westeros and in typical Game of Thrones style, the deaths of a number of loved characters. But considering where episode four left off we’re expecting the next two episodes to be just as epic. You will want, if not need to watch Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5.

How to Stop the Automatic Emails from Square Vendors

The sandwich was unremarkable—lukewarm and not quite melted, like a college freshman’s late-night microwave snack rather than a true grilled cheese. But I have thought about the sandwich every week since I ordered it, because the food truck that made it won’t stop emailing me.

First came the receipt. Then the expressions of gratitude, offers of deals. “Thanks for your visit!” one email screamed. “Get FREE FRIES!!” another offered. I do not want your free fries, food truck. What I want is to be left alone.

The emails keep coming because I paid for my grilled cheese with a credit card using the food truck’s Square credit card machine. Even though I never agreed to be put on this restaurant’s email list for all eternity, by virtue of swiping my card in that specific Square card reader, I apparently signed up to be hounded, spammed, and annoyed for the rest of my life.

If you’ve used a credit card at a retail establishment in the past five years or so, you [...]  read more

Il maltempo flagella la Lombardia: ferito un operaio che stava riparando una centralina elettrica

Grandine, vento e danni ingenti all’agricoltura.

A Pozzo d’Adda i pompieri [...]  read more

Everything we still want to see in the OnePlus 7 Pro

We’re expecting to see the OnePlus 7 Pro launch on May 14, alongside the non-pro OnePlus 7, at OnePlus’ community launch event. There’s a lot we already know, thanks to a combination of OnePlus’ slow drip-feed of information, and a plethora of leaks, but there’s still a lot we’ve yet to find out.

The big question mark lies over the ‘Pro’ suffix – OnePlus series usually consist of a standard phone, like the OnePlus 6, then a ‘T’ variant later in the year, like the OnePlus 6T. The company hasn’t released a Pro phone however, so we don’t really have historic phones to analyse to try and figure out what exactly OnePlus is about to release.

So instead of speculating endlessly on possible OnePlus 7 Pro features – which we’ve already done – we’ve put together a list of features that typical OnePlus phones don’t have, that we’d like to see.
