Boost US Innovation and Manufacturing Innovation

It is about time someone talked about innovation in the U.S. (“Innovation Should Be Made in the U.S.A.,” Review, Nov. 16). But the problem actually runs deeper. As a small manufacturer, I have been hearing for years about comparative advantage from economists, but in truth the comparative advantage is an authoritarian nation with a mercantilist industrial policy. Further, politicians encourage manufacturers to go offshore by having punitive, rather than common-sense, regulations in the areas of tort, the EPA, OSHA, ICE and the IRS.
