Greetings! Welcome to this Monday’s edition of The Monitor, WIRED’s collection of the most explosive news in the world of pop culture. Usually, this roundup covers bits and pieces from all over the spectrum, but last weekend was pretty much dominated by Comic Con Experience (aka CCXP), the massive fan confab in Brazil. If you weren’t on social media this past weekend—or actually in São Paulo for the convention—you might have missed a lot. Let’s catch you up.
Here’s the First Trailer for Wonder Woman 1984
Likely the biggest splash at CCXP came on Sunday, when Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for Wonder Woman 1984. Set, obviously, in the mid-1980s, the next film to feature Diana Prince takes place as the titular hero “comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah.” The Cheetah is played by Kristen Wiig and WW84 is directed by Wonder Woman helmer Patty Jenkins. The film hits theaters June 5, 2020.
Oh, and Here’s a Trailer for Ryan Reynolds’ Videogame Movie
Not to be outdone by Warner Bros., Disney also brought a slew of stuff to CCXP, including the new trailer for Free Guy, which stars Ryan Reynolds as a character in an open-world videogame who decides to make himself the hero. The movie, which also stars Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer, hits theaters July 3, 2020.
